Get Ben's take on the latest happenings in Washington D.C. !
Everybody loves to quote Ben Franklin – but that’s a little like living in the past. What we need in this new world is “Ben updated” – or, to put it another way, Ben Franklin for today...especially now, in light of the constantly changing situation in the nation's capital.
So that’s what we’re all about. Bringing Ben into the 21st century. So, meet “time traveler Ben.”
As you browse through this Ben site, you’ll probably recognize a number of his famous sayings – re-interpreted, however, with modern audiences in mind. The goal is to offer his wisdom and insights, but not in ways that would be seen as a turn-off or thought of as overly preachy or old-fashioned. Nor are we just trying to be another conduit of Benjamin Franklin facts – you can get those elsewhere, in plenty of other places on the web. We’re all about Ben Franklin now.
Ben’s fans have acclaimed him as the forerunner of what it means to be “American,” the earliest example of an “urban Yuppie,” entrepreneur, self-improvement guru, astute (and humorous) commentator on the state of society, and a prophet of progress and technological advancement.
So get ready for the priceless gems of Benjamin Franklin’s patriotism, practical wisdom, and down-to-earth humanity, brought up to speed for the new digital and visual media. Welcome to “Ben Franklin Exclusive”!
A note of serious concern from Ben...
My dear readers,
These are strange times we’re going through. Even back in the Revolutionary War days, we had some terribly divisive experiences — unnecessary bloodshed and suffering, whole families being torn asunder (my own family included!), battles over what freedom meant (especially with half our new country espousing slavery), traitors and spies in our midst, challenges to our basic human rights (those “inalienable” things mentioned in the Declaration of Independence), and just plain uncertainty over whether this great experiment in democracy would even survive!
As a time traveler who’s temporarily visiting this amazing 21st century of yours, I wish I had some more reassuring and inspiring words to give you, considering that you are all once again facing the question of sheer existence in the face of seemingly impossible challenges. We Founding Fathers had a lot of wisdom to impart, and we tried to put the best of our ideas into that document we called “The Constitution,” so that future generations (like yourselves) would have something to guide you when times got tough.
But when one of the very things under attack is the Constitution itself, then I have to admit that even I am concerned for your future. If one throws out the rule of law, then what is left is pure and simple chaos. And along with that, of course, comes unbridled greed, hate, cruelty, violence, and worse.
I hope and pray for your sake that calmer, more reasonable, and more compassionate voices ultimately come to the forefront and pull you back from the brink of destruction. Otherwise, even my time traveling tricks might not be enough to save you.
Your humble servant,

Top 10 tips for Halloween!
Real life can be downright scary — Halloween doesn't have to be. Here are Time Traveler Ben's tips for making this a safer holiday.
Seen at Grotonfest
Ben visited Grotonfest on Saturday, Sept. 23. He was there demonstrating his inventions, greeting passersby, signing autographs, posing for pictures, and even "bopping" to the music. He also had some of his books available for sale. A really fun event!
Crazy time-traveling inventor amazes Pepperell!
Here I am at the Pepperell Fall Festival this past weekend. A big thanks to the photographer from the PepperellBusinessAssociation for this fine picture. That strange device I'm holding is actually a model of the original "grabber!" Yes, indeed, I was the first one to come up with that idea — for use in my library, getting books off the top shelves — and now you can find it in practically any hardware store.
