Although, to be honest, from what I’ve learned, this other Doctor has quite a number of other time travel-related talents, experiences, and accomplishments to his credit, many more so than this ordinary man of the 1700s, yours truly. Apparently, he’s been traveling about since the 1960s (at least, according to televised reports; his actual age, they say, is a lot greater than even the televised reports suggest), and his travels haven’t been limited to this planet, either.
The other odd thing is that he’s not entirely “human.” While he looks very human, he is actually half-human, and half-alien. He is supposed to have been descended from a race called the “Time Lords.”
By now, dear reader, you must have guessed that this other Doctor to whom I am referring is none other than “Doctor Who.” Unlike myself, he can rightfully claim credit for rescuing numerous people from certain doom and destruction, and even occasionally, saving whole worlds. (About all I can take credit for is helping to birth this new nation called the “United States.”)
Networking between the Doctors
Upon hearing of this other Doctor, and realizing the accumulated knowledge he possesses, not only from his travels, but also from his advanced age, I thought it might be a good idea to find a way to get in touch with him, since I am very much puzzled by my own time travel experience, which mysteriously brought me from the 1700s here to the 21st century. Perhaps the Doctor might be able to offer some help in understanding this phenomenon. At the very least, he might even teach me how to exert some control over it; I am quite afraid that one day, by surprise, I could find myself suddenly transported back to 18th century Philadelphia!
I am puzzled by one thing, however. Which Doctor Who should I try to contact? Apparently, there are a whole slew of them. Time Lords, I’ve learned, as part of their alien nature, periodically undergo what is called “regeneration,” being transformed into an entirely new physical body, which is different in both appearance and personality from the one before. So, which regeneration should it be? Or more precisely, which “Who?”
Further, if I were to meet one of the Whos, I would have some questions I’d like to ask of him. Such as, “What’s it like to meet up with one of your regenerated selves? How does it feel? Which was your favorite regeneration, and why?”
The British connection
The other significant factor, of course, is that Doctor Who appears to be very well connected with the country of England. Why this is, I am not sure. But every televised report either features British locations, British subjects, or British individuals. (One in particular which recently caught my interest was a report that aliens had taken over the bodies of the Prime Minister and his closest advisors.)
For that reason alone, I would be interested in pursuing this further (not because of the alien Prime Minister, but because of the location). As you well know, I spent quite a number of years in England myself, and would relish the thought of a return trip there at some time.
Although, one thing that does concern me is the proliferation of unusual monsters, creatures, and adversaries that seem to follow and challenge the Doctor at every turn, whether it is in England or elsewhere. There are Daleks, Cybermen, Silurians, Zygons, Oods, and many more. If the Doctor is expected to constantly battle villains like these, he might not have very much time to chat with me. (Perhaps it is for the better; frankly, the idea of meeting up with one of these hideous, bloodthirsty creatures would scare the britches off me.)
So, if the Doctor is extremely pressed for time, which I imagine could very well be the case, since he always seems to be battling evil everywhere it rears its ugly head, I will probably have to scale back my agenda.
The one, and most important thing, which I would like to ask of him is this: “Could you by any chance be able to give me a lift in that time machine of yours, the Tardis, to some point in the near future?”
You see, dear reader, I am very curious to see how this adventure of mine here in the 21st century is ultimately going to turn out. I thought the Tardis might be a big help in figuring that out.
Your humble servant,
