As I have come to wonder about my unexpected presence here in the future year of 2013, my curiosity continues unabated as I search for answers as to how I arrived here.
It was my previous understanding, based on the study of science in my day, that a person does not simply exist one moment in the 1700s, and then suddenly find himself in 2013. Yet, here I am, and so obviously that understanding must be faulty. How, then, do I explain this?
Using the resources at my command (including some helpful visits to the library, which I am forever thankful that I invented, back in Philadelphia), I believe I may have stumbled upon some information that may clarify how this all happened.
Apparently, a scientist of the 1900s, a gentleman of great genius named Albert Einstein, developed a “theory of relativity” which, among other things, asserts that time travel is indeed possible, according to his study of physics.
I even found a very short and entertaining visual presentation on this thing you call “Youtube,” which does a fairly good job of dealing with this very subject: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7vpw4AH8QQ
As a man of science myself, I can somewhat comprehend the general principles that Mr. Einstein was working with. And I can see how, if this phenomenon is actually possible, that I might have been whisked away from my former century at the speed of light. But the question remains, how or why did it happen? Was someone else involved in this miracle? Was there some unknown individual – perhaps another person of science – who was conducting some kind of experiment, in which I was the unwitting subject? Or was it all coincidence, as I originally thought, perhaps due to some odd coming-together of various factors like electricity, my famous kite, and some other mysterious force, much like the way a solar eclipse occurs?
Perhaps we shall never know.
However, it also occurs to me that my time here may not be of unlimited duration. I could, it seems, be snatched back at any unexpected time, just as I was deposited here in the first place.
Therefore, I must make the most use of my time here, while I still have opportunities to observe, learn, and refine my knowledge of this strange new world, which I could scarcely even imagine back in the 1700s. This holds a great deal of interest and excitement for me, which will certainly lead to many sleepless nights as I examine and investigate all the amazing aspects of 21st century America.
Your humble servant,
B.Franklin
